What actually happens in a fertility discovery consultation
The first fertility appointment can feel like a big step. It is common to put it off when you are unsure what to expect or worry that booking a consultation means committing to treatment. Our aim is to make the process clear, supportive and tailored to you.

An assessment, not a commitment
The initial Fertility Discovery Consultation is $395 and provides an opportunity to explore your fertility concerns, understand your current situation and develop a plan for the next steps.
While this consultation is the starting point for Aevum fertility pathways, there is no obligation to proceed with an ongoing program. Some patients need only an initial assessment, guidance and a clear plan to move forward.
This is an assessment and planning appointment, rather than a fertility treatment appointment. Aevum does not provide IVF, intrauterine insemination (IUI), egg retrieval, embryo transfer or egg freezing. If these treatments are appropriate for your circumstances, we can discuss referral to, or ongoing care with, a suitably qualified fertility specialist or assisted reproductive technology provider.
What does the consultation involve?
Understanding your fertility history. We will discuss your menstrual cycle, reproductive and medical history, how long you may have been trying to conceive, any previous pregnancies and investigations, and any concerns or questions you would like addressed.
Considering both partners, where relevant. Fertility involves both partners when conception is being planned together. Where applicable, we will consider factors affecting both partners, including male reproductive health, to help ensure the assessment is as comprehensive as possible. A male factor is the main cause in about 30% of cases of infertility and a contributing cause in about another 20% (Mazzilli et al., Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, 2023).
Identifying appropriate investigations. Based on your individual history and circumstances, we will discuss which tests or investigations may be helpful. Investigations are tailored to the individual rather than automatically ordering the same tests for everyone.
Explaining your results and options. If you already have test results, we will review what they mean in the context of your overall fertility health. We will discuss any findings, what they may mean for your chances of conception, and how they may influence your next steps.
Developing a personalised plan. You will leave with a clearer understanding of your current situation and a plan for moving forward. This may include recommended investigations, practical next steps, follow-up to review results or referral to a fertility specialist if needed.
A written summary will outline what was discussed, any investigations arranged and the agreed next steps.
If you are planning ahead rather than actively trying to conceive
Preconception care is an opportunity to take a proactive approach to your reproductive health before trying to conceive. Having this consultation early allows time to establish a baseline, review your medical and reproductive history, identify any factors that may benefit from further assessment or optimisation, and discuss ways to support your health in preparation for pregnancy.
It also provides an opportunity to discuss your fertility goals, address any questions or concerns, and develop a personalised plan for the months ahead, including when to seek further assessment if conception does not occur as expected.
Planning ahead can help you feel more informed and prepared, without the added pressure that can sometimes accompany actively trying to conceive.
What this consultation can and cannot do
No consultation or assessment can guarantee conception or predict with certainty how long it may take to become pregnant. Fertility is influenced by a range of individual factors, and outcomes vary from person to person.
However, a preconception consultation can help provide a clearer understanding of your reproductive health, identify potentially modifiable factors, and guide appropriate investigations, lifestyle recommendations and follow-up where indicated.
The aim is to help you make informed decisions, understand your options, and establish a practical, individualised plan to support your health and prepare for pregnancy.
